Accountable is AI bookkeeping for startups and the founders who run more than one company: books kept by AI and closed every day. With this plugin, ChatGPT reads and keeps those books for you.
What you can do:
- Ask how a company is doing: cash, net burn, runway and revenue, from the live books.
- Pull a profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow or trial balance for any months or exact days, on a cash or accrual basis, and ask why a number changed.
- See which transactions still need a category, categorize them the way the company already does, and save a rule so a vendor never asks again.
- Read bills, invoices and who owes what, and check how this month's close is going.
- Post a journal entry, comment on a record, label an alert or save a planning scenario.
How changes work: every change is previewed first and changes nothing until you confirm it. Each change is logged with your name and ChatGPT's, follows your role in that company (a viewer can read but not change), and can be undone. Closed months stay closed.
Who it is for: founders and the finance people who work with them, on an Accountable account. Sign in with your Accountable account and choose which companies ChatGPT may open, and whether it may only read.
Limitations: it never moves money. It records payments that already happened but cannot pay a bill, send a transfer or file taxes. Sending invoices, closing a month, imports and settings stay in Accountable's app.
Example prompts
- “How much cash do we have, what is our burn, and how many months of runway is that?”
- “Show last month's profit and loss and explain what changed from the month before.”
- “Which transactions still need a category? Categorize them the way we usually do.”
Skills
answer-review-questions
Work the review queue: one answer per vendor question categorizes all its transactions and teaches a rule.
clean-up-vendors
Find every transaction from a vendor by its bank text, give it one clean name and category, and teach a rule that also fixes the past.
plan-runway
Answer "what if we hire, cut or raise" from the live books, and save the scenario the founder wants to keep.
post-a-journal-entry
Accruals, reclassifications and corrections as balanced entries, and which ones wait for an owner.
read-reports
Pull P&L, balance sheet and trial balance for whole months or exact days, respect the readiness warnings, and drill into a line.
review-anomalies
Work through what the detectors flagged, label each alert, and explain why a number moved between two months with its transactions.
start-here
The tools Accountable offers in ChatGPT, how a change previews before it applies, and the first calls to make.
undo-a-change
Find a change in the history, see exactly what undoing it restores, and undo it.
what-did-we-know
Show a report as the books were recorded at a moment (or as a closed month was frozen), compare it with now, and name the changes in between.
