Ask the Sign

Ask the Sign answers questions about the place you’re standing in: a store, a restaurant, a hotel or a venue.

How it works: at a participating place, tap the Ask the Sign sign with your phone. A page opens with a button for your assistant, which starts a chat with a short one-time connect code so your assistant knows where you are. Connecting uses an anonymous account: Ask the Sign never asks for your name, email or phone.

Once connected you can ask, in your own words and language:

Where is it? “Where can I find something to fix a dripping kitchen faucet?” gives matching items, price, whether they’re in stock, and the aisle or area. Do you have it in my size or colour? Variants and their stock. Diet labels and allergens: items the place has labelled, never a promise that something is safe. Where is the restroom, the checkout or the front desk, and what’s on today? Opening hours, the return policy and the place’s other answers, in its own words. Need a person? With your OK, Ask the Sign sends your message to the staff there. Something wrong? Report a listing that’s out of date so the place can fix it. Limits: Ask the Sign only answers about the place you connected to, and only for a while after you tap (the place sets how long). Elsewhere, or after the connection ends, it asks you to tap a sign again. Information comes from the place and may be out of date. Ask the Sign doesn’t sell anything, take payments or show ads.
