Codex Advisor automatically adds a fresh, read-only second opinion when Codex identifies a material technical decision.
Standard remains Terra/high for ordinary bounded architecture, interface, data-model, and generic-advisor decisions. Specialist remains GPT-6 Sol/high only when targeted evidence still leaves a cross-system design, compatibility or concurrency boundary, competing diagnosis, security or trust boundary, recovery, irreversible migration, or data-loss decision unresolved. Project importance, security adjacency, or an ordinary architecture question alone stays Standard. A separate advisor-astra role offers explicit-only Astra/high consultation for the most complex uses; it is never selected automatically, uses more Codex allowance, and remains subject to account and runtime availability.
Every consultation runs in a separate read-only, tool-free process. It cannot change your files, run commands, browse the web, or make decisions for you. You remain in control: Advisor does not implement, deploy, or perform final review.
Example prompts
- “Should we split this service into microservices?”
- “Review this database migration plan.”
- “Which API design is safer for this integration?”
Skills
consultation
Consult for ordinary material architecture, interface, data-model, or explicit advisor, generic-advisor, authorization, challenge, second-opinion, or architecture-review choices; or, when targeted evidence still leaves unresolved cross-module or system design, compatibility or concurrency boundaries, competing diagnoses, security, privacy, or trust boundaries, recovery, irreversible-state migration, or data-loss decisions; and the completion consultation that complex multi-phase or multi-file work takes before it is declared complete. Skip factual/status/summarization work, fully determined mechanical edits, formatting/renaming/docs synchronization, settled-plan execution, final review owned elsewhere, explicit no-delegation/root-only requests, and every borderline case.
