Check any citation, anytime: a reference list in your draft, sources an AI assistant suggested (including ChatGPT in this conversation), a literature review, or the references in a paper you are reviewing. And check your manuscript before the journal does.

Check references: paste references or ask ChatGPT to check the ones in your file or earlier in the conversation. Each reference is looked up in Crossref, the DOI registry and Retraction Watch and comes back with its source and check time: resolves, registered outside Crossref, retracted, expression of concern, correction issued, journal flagged, points to a different record, not found, or could not be checked. Only the references are sent, never your manuscript.

Journal AI policies: ask what a journal allows on AI authorship, disclosure statements, AI-generated images, and reviewers' or editors' use of AI. Answers come from Manusights' dated record of the official policy page, with that page linked; when a record is out of date or the page could not be fully read, it says so and links the page instead. Where Manusights has measured it, you also get the journal's typical time from submission to acceptance.

Manuscript preview: attach a manuscript (PDF, Word, ODT, RTF, TXT, Markdown or LaTeX, up to 50 MB) for a readiness score, a verdict and the main risks a reviewer is likely to raise. You can also read reviews already on your Manusights account.

For researchers, students and reviewers who cite papers. Reference checks and journal AI-policy lookups work without an account. Manuscript previews and your saved reviews need a Manusights account; you can sign in with Google, an emailed link or a password.

Limitations: checks report what the sources hold. They cannot tell whether a reference supports a claim, and "could not be checked" (common for books, theses and conference papers without a DOI) is not a sign of a problem. "Not found" means the sources hold no record, which can also be a typo. Up to 100 references per check. Journal policies cover the journals in Manusights' records. Manusights does not write or rewrite manuscripts.

Example prompts

  • “Are any references in my attached draft retracted or broken?”
  • “Can I use AI-generated images in a Nature paper?”
  • “Review my attached manuscript before I submit it.”

Skills

  • check-before-submission

Check citations and manuscripts with Manusights. Use it whenever the user wants to know whether references exist, resolve or have been retracted, including citations an AI assistant gave earlier in the conversation, a draft's reference list or a literature review; when they want a journal's AI-use and disclosure rules; or when they want a readiness preview of an attached manuscript before submission.
