Shellway connects ChatGPT to your home or work computer — so you can read files, run commands, and control your machine from anywhere, using plain English.

No VPN. No port forwarding. No IT department needed. Just install the small Shellway agent on any computer and it's ready in under 5 minutes.

What ChatGPT can do on your computer:

  • Read, write and edit files, move and rename them, create folders
  • Search files by name or by text inside them, with filters and context
  • Run terminal commands and long-running programs (dev servers, Python sessions)
  • Check running programs and stop them
  • List your paired computers and see which are online

You stay in control. Start the agent with --readonly so ChatGPT can only read and search. Remove any computer from your dashboard at any time. Shellway relays requests between ChatGPT and your computer — it does not store your file contents or command output.

Works on Linux, macOS, and Windows (Linux is the most tested). Requires Node.js 22 or newer. Sign in with Google.
